Facebook and Google+

Well they have done it again. Major changes to Facebook. Clearly in an attempt to keep people from jumping ship to Google+, Facebook has added features and changed the look of their social networking site. I will leave it to others to decide if these changes are making it better for the user or better for their bottom line.

I like Google+ and the changes that Facebook instituted do appear very similar to what Google+ has rolled out.

With the two social networking sites being so similar and if you are a Facebook user, the changes being forced upon you now is the time to take a couple proactive steps towards protecting your online identity:

  • Go through the privacy settings and make sure you understand what you are sharing with the various groups of friends, family and colleagues.
  • When sorting your friends, ask yourself how well you know the person and do you really want them having access to your postings. Now is the time to clean house. The days of having the most friends is really over.
It's going to take you some time to go through your friends list, but your personal safety is worth the effort.
